It´s 2006 – and DOS is still alive

From a Lotus Quickplace 7.0 Technote:

Installation of a Sametime server in a folder that is not compatible with the DOS 8.3 format will result in issues with STLinks initializing. QuickPlace users, Domino Web Access (DWA) users, and users of STLinks-enabled portlets will not be able to see awareness.

Some things live longer than its supposed to be.
